iPhones are the most common phones we see at the shop. Cracked screens, batteries that don't hold their charge, charging ports that have stopped working properly, back glass that's shattered after a fall โ€” we work through them all from the iPhone 7 right up to the latest models. Most repairs are finished in around an hour, and because iPhone screens for the popular models are kept in stock, you can often walk in, drop the phone off, sort other things in town, and pick it up sorted before you head home.

The shop's on Packers Row in Chesterfield town centre, and we've been here for twenty years. The same person who looks at your phone is the one who quotes the repair and does the work โ€” no call-centre handover, no being told "we'll have to send it to head office," no week-long wait for a job that should take an afternoon.

Charging port problems in particular are often a clean rather than a full replacement โ€” packed-in dust and lint can mimic a faulty port. We'll always check before recommending a replacement.

About the Screens We Fit

You'll notice a real jump in price between the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max upwards and the rest of the range. That's worth explaining, because it isn't a quality difference โ€” it's a technology difference.

For iPhone 7 through to the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, the screens we fit are high-quality replacement panels. These models have been around long enough that the parts have had years to mature โ€” the manufacturing is refined, the displays look right, the touch response is sharp, and the phone behaves the way it should after the repair. We've fitted thousands of these screens and we wouldn't put one in a customer's phone if we weren't happy with how it performs.

For the iPhone 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, the situation is different. These phones were built around features that need OLED to function properly โ€” the always-on display, ProMotion's 120Hz smooth scrolling, and the way the screen handles brightness across a wide range of conditions. The non-OLED replacement market hasn't had time to catch up on those features yet, so we fit OLED panels on these specific models. It costs more, but it means the phone actually does what it was designed to do.

Whatever screen ends up in your phone, it'll be the right one for that model โ€” not the cheapest option we could get away with. Where we have a choice, we choose the one that keeps the phone working the way it should.

Common iPhone Issues We See Every Week

If your phone is doing one of these, you're not alone โ€” these come into the shop constantly. None of them mean you need a new phone.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Cracked or shattered screen

The most common job we do, by some margin. Whether it's a clean crack across the glass or the screen has stopped responding to touch, screen replacement is usually a same-day job and your phone behaves like new again afterwards. Most popular iPhone screens are kept in stock at the shop.

๐Ÿ”‹ Battery dying by lunchtime

If your iPhone is shutting down at 30% or 40%, dying by mid-afternoon, or getting noticeably hot while charging, the battery has worn out. Battery health below 80% in your iPhone's settings confirms it. A replacement makes the phone feel new again โ€” fitted in around an hour from ยฃ29.

๐Ÿ”Œ Phone won't charge properly

Charging only at certain angles, only with certain cables, or stopping and starting? It's often dust and lint packed into the charging port rather than a hardware fault. We can usually clean it out properly while you wait for a small charge โ€” saves you a full port replacement.

๐Ÿชž Cracked or shattered back glass

The back of newer iPhones is glass and it doesn't handle drops well. Beyond looking rough, sharp glass edges can cut your hand or pocket lining. We replace iPhone back glass at ยฃ50 โ€” most done the same day.

๐Ÿ’ง Dropped in water

If your iPhone has gone in the bath, kitchen sink, or out in the rain โ€” turn it off and bring it in straight away. The faster it gets cleaned and dried properly, the better the chance of saving it. Initial assessment is free, and we'll give you an honest answer about what's recoverable.

๐Ÿ“ท Camera not focusing or hazy photos

Older iPhones especially can develop camera issues โ€” the autofocus stops working, photos come out blurry, or the camera app crashes. Sometimes it's a faulty camera module needing replacement, sometimes it's a settings or software issue. We'll check and quote before any work.

Why Bring Your iPhone to Spire

The honest reasons our regulars keep coming back, and why customers travel from outside Chesterfield for iPhone repairs specifically. None of these are flashy โ€” they're just the basics done properly.

Same-day for most repairs. Because we keep popular iPhone screens in stock and we work on phones in-house rather than sending them away, most repairs are turned around in around an hour. You drop the phone off, sort whatever else needs doing in town, and collect it sorted the same afternoon. Less common models or specific Pro / Pro Max parts may need a next-day turnaround if we have to order parts in โ€” we'll always tell you straight away.

Honest about what's wrong. The free check is a real check โ€” we'll tell you what we think the issue is, what the repair would cost, and whether it's genuinely worth doing on your specific phone. If your iPhone is approaching the point where the cost of fixing one thing isn't a great use of your money because something else is also failing, we'll say so. We'd rather be honest and lose the immediate job than push a repair that doesn't make sense.

The same person who looks at the phone fixes it. No call-centre handover, no being passed between staff, no "we'll have to send it to head office." The diagnosis, the quote and the actual repair are done by the same person. Twenty years on Packers Row means we've seen most things at least once before.

If your iPhone isn't worth repairing, we'll say so. Sometimes the right answer is to upgrade rather than fix, and we'll tell you that straight. We sell refurbished iPhones in the shop and will buy your old one as part of the trade if it makes sense. No pressure โ€” just genuine options when fixing isn't the best move.

Common Questions About iPhone Repair

How long does an iPhone screen replacement take?
Around an hour for most models, sometimes a little less. Most customers drop the phone off and either wait in the shop, grab a coffee in town, or come back later in the afternoon to collect it. We'll give you a realistic time when you bring it in.

Do you keep iPhone parts in stock?
Yes โ€” most of the popular iPhone screens are kept in stock at the shop, which is why most repairs are same-day. For less common variants or specific Pro / Pro Max parts, we sometimes need to order parts in for the next day. We'll always check stock and tell you straight away when you bring the phone in.

What about my data โ€” will I lose anything?
No. The repair work doesn't touch the phone's memory or your data. Your photos, contacts, messages, apps and settings all stay exactly as they were. That said, it's always sensible to have an iCloud or computer backup before any phone repair โ€” that's good practice in general, not specific to us.

Can you fix an iPhone that's been dropped in water?
Often yes, but not always โ€” it depends on how long it was in the water, how quickly you brought it in, and whether the corrosion has reached the logic board. Bring it in as soon as you can, turned off, ideally with the SIM tray removed. We'll do a free assessment and give you an honest answer about what's recoverable.

What if the repair doesn't fix the issue?
If we've quoted for a specific repair and it doesn't resolve the problem, we'll discuss what's next before going further โ€” sometimes there's a second issue underneath the first, sometimes the original diagnosis was off. Either way you're kept informed and never charged for work that wasn't agreed.

Do you repair iPhones with iCloud activation lock?
We don't handle Apple ID password recovery or activation lock issues โ€” that's a process Apple controls and we're not equipped to work around it. If your iPhone is locked to an Apple ID you can't access, you'll need to contact Apple Support directly. They can sometimes help in legitimate cases.

How far back do you repair iPhones?
We work on the iPhone 7 onwards. For older iPhones (iPhone 6, 6s, SE first generation), parts are increasingly hard to source reliably and we've stopped offering repairs for those. If you have one of those models and it's come to the end of its life, we can sometimes buy it from you for parts.

Where is the shop and what are the opening hours?
We're at 19 Packers Row, Chesterfield, S40 1RB โ€” right in the town centre. Saltergate, New Beetwell Street and Pavements car parks are all a couple of minutes' walk away. Opening hours are listed on our Contact page.
